Day 16, night
We considered making a police report, but decided against it. Thinking of police made us think of Salina, where the police didn't seem to do much of anything, and what could we tell them anyway? That we'd lost the only piece of evidence we could have given them?
We never did go out for sushi. We were more in the mood for a liquid diet, if you know what I mean. It's incredible the things you can put out of your mind with the right combination of hydrocodone and alcohol.
The touristy stuff seems so silly to me right now, but we may do some of that tomorrow anyway. Go see the aquarium and such. (Do you think they serve sushi at the aquarium? That would be so wrong.) |

Right now I'm sitting in the hotel room watching the 11 o'clock news. In the Northwest it's on an hour later than back home, on every channel. And it's local programming, so it has nothing to do with time zones. Tiny little cultural differences you don't expect.
On the road, you see a wider picture of the world, but you also lose sight of some of it. This is the first time I've watched the news in a while. Since Salina, I guess. There's talk of an appearance of SARS in central Arkansas. They've sealed off an entire county, which seems stupid to me. SARS won't kill most people and if it's out there already, can we really keep it from spreading?
We miss our guitars right now. There's music in the streets in Seattle, almost as prevalent as the Quarter in New Orleans. A different flavor, but the same sense of longing. But there's only so much stuff you can fit in a car. |
